Post-Harvest Training on Agri-Food Supply for Gyalsung SitesThe Department in collaboration with the Regional Office, National Post-Harvest Centre (NPHC), Dzongkhags, and Gewogs, successfully organized a comprehensive training program on post-harvest management at the four Gyalsung sites.

The trainings were held in Sipsu, Samtse (March 18–19) with 30 participants; Phuntshothang, Samdrup Jongkhar (March 21–22) with 22 participants; Khotokha, Wangduephodrang (May 12–13) with 54 participants; Ruechidkha, Wangduephodrang (May 14–15) with 20 participants; and Drepong, Mongar (May 15-18) with 30 participants.Participants included officials, mess-in-charges, and chefs from the Gyalsung Academy, FCBL focal representatives, farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives, and aggregators supplying to Gyalsung Academies. The training was initiated in response to a monitoring report on the agri-food supply for the first cohort of Gyalsung Academies, which highlighted significant post-harvest losses as a key issue affecting farmer profitability and supply chain efficiency.

Its main objective was to build knowledge and practical skills to reduce these losses, improve storage and handling, and enhance market access for agricultural produce. The training covered both theoretical and practical aspects of post-harvest handling, including harvesting techniques, storage, and transportation practices. Hands-on sessions focused on minimizing post-harvest losses, using appropriate tools, and ensuring quality standards to meet institutional demand. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the training, noting its practical relevance and committing to apply the knowledge gained. Moving forward, continued support through capacity building, input provision, post-harvest infrastructure, and improved market linkages will be critical to ensuring a reliable and high-quality supply chain for Gyalsung Academies.
